This quick, but fun, project can be completed in a short time and is useful for anyone on your gift list.  Many cover designs are perfect for the men on your list.  They are easy enough to make ahead and have a few on hand for an “anytime” gift.  They are the right size for grocery lists, keeping track of directions to soccer games, home improvement shopping lists or whatever you need to keep organized.

The covers from circa 1950’s and 1960’s books will be provided that night as well as all other components.  Once you see how nice these turn out you’ll be scouring the flea markets and second hand shops to make more.

For ages 12+

We’re currently planning our winter sessions and are looking for leaders and topic suggestions.  Interested in volunteering to be a Maker Monday workshop leader?  Contact Elizabeth Davis at edavis@albright.org to volunteer or to suggest a topic that you are interested in learning more about.

Go Green with the Library: Rain Reclamation

rain barrel bookletIf you missed this week’s Maker Monday about rain reclamation, you can still find information on how to conserve water.

Executive director, Bernie McGurl, of the Lackawanna River Corridor Association gave patrons tips to install and use rain barrels at their homes this past Monday. Due to the joint effort of the LRCA and Scranton Sewer Authority, there are several informative brochures and handbooks to help people learn how they can conserve and keep their water clean.

One of the LRCA’s special projects includes cleaning the Lackawanna River and creating public awareness on how a clean river impacts our community and the states around us.  You can access and download their Lackawanna Clean River booklet by clicking on this link for more information on the project.

You can also access the booklet by going to the  LRCA’s website and clicking on the Special Projects tab on the left-hand side of the page. Look for the Lackawanna River Clean title under this tab. Once on the Lackawanna River Clean page, there will be a link called Lackawanna River Citizens Water Quality handbook that will take you right to the booklet.

The LRCA also has a booklet on rain barrel installation under the same tab and header as the Lackawanna River Clean handbook. You can access it here: http://www.lrca.org/LRCA/SpecialProjects/pdf/RainBarrels.pdf.

The Scranton Public Works website is another great resource for people interested in better storm water practices.  You can find informative brochures on downspout disconnection, rain barrels, rain gardens, and storm water soakage trenches. The Scranton Public Works website also includes links to all regulations related to storm water management in the city of Scranton.

Patrons can access the above websites on any of the library’s computers upstairs in the Reference department. All you need is a current library card to log onto a computer. Want to find more ways to go green? Just search for “Go Green” in the search box at the top of the page to read more articles.
